The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) embarked on Provincial Peace Committee Preventative Dialogue meetings which kicked off with Manicaland Province on the 25th of October 2021, followed by Midlands, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and rounded up with Harare Province on the 16th of November 2021. The meetings were an opportunity for the Provincial Peace Committee members to share experiences as peace committee members and interface with the new Commission which was sworn in May this year, following the expiry of the tenure of the first NPRC Commission. All the country’s 10 Provincial Peace Committees Preventative Dialogue meetings were successfully held. The meetings focused on Covid 19 related conflicts and conflict prevention strategies and models in electoral periods. NPRC Acting Chairperson, Commissioner Lilian Chigwedere addressed all the meetings. Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution also delivered key note address in their respective provinces at the Provincial Peace Committee Preventative Dialogue meetings.
Various stakeholders attended the meetings and media organisations had the opportunity to interview the new NPRC Commissioners.
